Program Overview

The WNMU Educational Leadership (EDL) Program prepares educators to become confident, ethical, and future-focused school leaders. Through a blend of research-based coursework and real-world leadership experiences, candidates learn how to lead change, improve teaching and learning, and build strong, equitable school communities. Graduates complete the program ready for New Mexico administrative licensure and prepared to lead PreK–12 schools with integrity and impact.

Includes: Internships, Clinical / Practicum, Fieldwork, Research Projects, Capstone Experience, Community Engagement, Professional Certifications

The WNMU Futures-Literate Educational Leadership (EDL) program combines a year-long clinical experience with structured mentoring and continuous support, while embedded fieldwork allows candidates to practice leadership in real-world settings throughout the program. This integrated design ensures theory and practice develop together, equipping graduates with the confidence, judgment, and practical skills needed to lead effectively. The experience culminates in a capstone exit portfolio and reflective leadership statement. Graduates can earn both a Master of Arts degree and a Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership upon completion.

Admissions & Program Requirements

Admission to the EDL program requires submission of a current résumé, a statement of educational leadership philosophy, and at least one letter of recommendation from an immediate supervisor to ensure candidates demonstrate readiness and leadership potential.

In addition to meeting admission criteria, candidates must maintain satisfactory academic progress and complete required clinical and field-based components to advance through and graduate from the program.

Licensure & Certification

Successful completion of the program qualifies graduates for eligibility for New Mexico PreK–12 administrative licensure in alignment with state requirements.
